Chapter 32 BADITAW

Being a Dad in the Animal World

o0o

Jason's behavior was always a bit strange, which left Bai Yi confused.

Logically speaking, animals didn't have these kinds of complicated thoughts. Their emotions were always reflected in their actions, and they didn’t really have emotions in the human sense.

If they were unhappy, they would simply act on it.

But Jason was different. It seemed like he had thoughts of his own, yet he didn't fully express them.

Bai Yi couldn't figure him out.

Take this recent incident, for example. The hostility Jason showed toward that lioness was completely unnatural for a male lion.

And that was a lioness Bai Yi had gone through great effort to bring over from miles away, a young adult who had probably never even had a mate before.

Bai Yi had thought that by finding a mate for Jason, the cub could experience romance, and this would give him a chance to breed.

With a lioness in the pride, things would finally start to look normal. At the very least, there would be a female presence.

But in the end, that fool Jason scared her off before she could even settle in. Not only that, but Jason also put on quite the performance right in front of Bai Yi.

After chasing away the lioness, Jason lowered his head and looked as innocent as a clueless cub.

Good job, kid.

You’ve once again reshaped my perception of you.

The lioness hadn’t left the territory entirely. Since Bai Yi had brought her here, he had to create an opportunity somehow, even if he had to force one—so Jason, that blockhead, could finally experience love.

Once he felt a lioness's gentleness, he wouldn’t be so clingy anymore.

Jason had been sticking to Bai Yi, rubbing against him and licking him. Bai Yi, feeling annoyed, walked away, only for Jason to quickly follow behind.

For now, though, Bai Yi had another task, teaching the three cubs how to recognize their prey.

They were already over a year old, their bodies growing larger. It was time for them to follow Bai Yi and Jason to learn about their food sources.

To protect his dignity, Bai Yi remained cautious around Jason. When sleeping, he kept his distance. Now that they had access to water, he no longer needed Jason’s help grooming. After bathing, Bai Yi would clean himself up.

Once again, he was clean and handsome.

Every time he finished bathing, he would stare at his reflection in the water.

Then, with great admiration, he would think 'these thick, smooth fur, this mighty lion’s mane, and these unwavering, determined eyes, all perfectly embodied the word handsome.'

Not being able to claim him as a mate was undoubtedly a great regret for the lionesses of the savanna!

Bai Yi’s narcissistic behavior had the livestream audience laughing uncontrollably. They had never seen an animal this full of himself before.

He not only used the water’s surface as a mirror but also acted cute on the riverbank from time to time. The crocodiles and hippos in the river watched him, but he remained completely unaware.

He even gave his head a dramatic shake, causing his thick, dark lion’s mane to glisten under the sunlight.

"What kind of treasure lion is Xiao Bai Yi? I can’t stop laughing! How can he be this adorable? Does he know he looks powerful and handsome, so he does all these poses on purpose?"

"Crocodile says: Bro, if you’re sick, go see a doctor. Stop tempting me on the shore. If you push me too far, I’ll come up there."

"Xiao Narcissist Bai: Come up for what?"

"Crocodile: Your sheer flamboyance is burning my eyes. I want to have an interspecies romance with you."

"Hahahaha… Go on, say more if you can."

Bai Yi was simply confident in his appearance. His love for cleanliness meant he had fewer flies and mosquitoes on him compared to other lions.

Although Jason was also a neat freak and kept the three cubs well-groomed, their fur still carried his saliva, which made them a magnet for mosquitoes.

Those little pests were truly annoying, especially when trying to sleep. Getting bitten awake was the worst.

Bai Yi sighed again, everything in the world had a soul, except flies and mosquitoes.

After tidying himself up and catching up on sleep, it was already evening—dinnertime. Jason was nowhere to be seen.

He had obviously gone hunting.

And since Jason wasn’t around, that lioness came looking for Bai Yi again.

She approached carefully, lay down beside him, and affectionately rubbed against him.

Since Bai Yi saw her as a potential mate for Jason, he accepted her presence. When Jason returned, he could help them bond, so Bai Yi even licked her in return.

Unfortunately, this exact moment was when Jason came back, carrying food in his mouth.

Jason froze on the spot. The "dinner" in his mouth dropped to the ground as he immediately turned and walked away.

The three cubs saw their brother return from the hunt and eagerly scampered toward his prey on their tiny legs.

Only Bai Yi stood there, utterly confused, watching Jason’s retreating figure.

The lioness also looked at Jason’s back before pressing herself closer to Bai Yi, as if she were afraid.

Bai Yi got up, staring at Jason’s fading silhouette, full of question marks in his mind.

What triggered him this time?

Not far away, the antelope Jason had hunted was still alive, struggling on the ground.

Wangcai and isa nervously paced around it, calling out uneasily. Only Goudan boldly pounced on the antelope’s neck, biting and tearing into it.

Bai Yi stepped forward to let the cubs familiarize themselves with their food, and the lioness followed closely behind.

But Jason’s figure had already disappeared.

Goudan’s movements were natural and decisive, resembling a born ruler.

However, Wangcai and Isa simply stood there watching, showing no desire to bite into their prey.

They were waiting for either Goudan or their big brother to kill it first.

Bai Yi growled at them to step forward, but they didn’t move. Their clueless yet lazy expressions, why did they look so much like him?

Bai Yi: "…"

No way. Have they already picked up my habits after just a few months?

Kids, you’re lions! You can’t be like me!

I may look like a lion, but I’m fundamentally different from you!

"Roar!"

Get over here and learn what food is!

Bai Yi roared a few more times. Wangcai and isa remained unfazed.

Bai Yi: "…"

They were doomed.

Except for Goudan, these two were probably hopeless.

Bai Yi nudged them with his head, pushing them toward the prey. They glanced at the still-blinking antelope, immediately retreated uneasily, and then lay down a short distance away, watching Goudan tear into the meat.

Bai Yi: "…"

What was this?

Did this mean like father, like son?

Had his lazy nature influenced these two little kings of the grasslands?

Do you even know what you’re doing?!

Where did things go wrong? Why is Gou Dan fine?

Gou Dan, why are you different from them? Did you mutate, or did those two?

Bai Yi stood there in confusion for a while. Gou Dan and the lioness had already finished off the prey. After glancing at Bai Yi, they began eating.

Lions follow a hierarchy when eating, the strongest eat first.

Normally, if there's a male lion in the pride, he eats first, followed by the lionesses, and then the cubs.

However, when the cubs grow up and there are many males, the sub-adult ones start breaking the rules. They ignore the lionesses and fight to eat first.

In such cases, the lionesses can only accept it helplessly.

Clearly, the lioness and Gou Dan had waited to see if Bai Yi would eat before they started.

At this moment, Wang Cai and Isa also got up and joined in the meal.

Bai Yi: "…" Useless at everything except eating.

Absolutely useless!

Hmm… why does that feel like an insult to myself?

After sighing, Bai Yi also joined in. But where did Jason go after bringing them dinner?

Why did he just leave out of nowhere?

Is this what happens when kids grow up and start keeping secrets?

Bai Yi had no idea, but one thing was certain, the lioness seemed off.

She was originally meant to be Jason's mate, but since Jason didn't want her, was Bai Yi stuck with her now?

Bai Yi's gut feeling turned out to be right. The young lioness, who had just reached adulthood and lost her pride, had entered estrus.

After finishing dinner, they returned to their resting spot, ready to sleep again. Isn't that what a good life is all about?

Eat, sleep, repeat.

If only there were a chilled watermelon and a phone with a stable internet connection.

Lying in bed, eating watermelon, and scrolling through the phone, that would be Bai Yi's perfect life.

Unfortunately, he had nothing right now. Just a lioness constantly rubbing against him.

The three little ones, noticing how affectionate the lioness was toward Bai Yi, became unhappy.

Especially Gou Dan, his possessiveness was even stronger than his brother’s. The tiny cub pounced on the lioness and bit her.

However, since their bite strength wasn’t that great yet, it didn’t really affect her.

Gou Dan and Isa, usually lazy and useless, were suddenly fired up.

They shoved the lioness away from Bai Yi, growling uneasily as if saying: "Stay away from our big brother! We don’t like you!"

After successfully pushing the lioness aside, the three little ones took Bai Yi's side, snuggling up to him. They lay down, pressing against Bai Yi, resting their heads on his fluffy belly, and slowly closed their eyes.

They looked extremely content.

The lioness stared at the three cubs in confusion, then looked at Bai Yi again, letting out a low growl.

She didn’t want to leave.

She was still waiting for Bai Yi to respond to her.

"Roar." Gege, let's go somewhere quieter. There are too many lions here, we keep getting interrupted.

"Roar." Jiejie, the mate I found for you was the one who just left. I’m not looking to date you.

"Roar." But he doesn’t like me, and I only like you.

"Roar." Thanks, I also really like myself.

"…" Narcissism is an illness, it needs treatment.

The two lions communicated with roars and glances for a while. The lioness looked at Bai Yi, let out a soft whimper, then got up and left. Maybe she understood that this male lion couldn’t give her happiness.

She decided to try her luck with another one. Within a ten-mile radius, this was the only pride around.

Could things get any worse?

With graceful feline steps, the lioness walked away.

Bai Yi was worried about Jason and had no choice but to get up and look for him.

Following Jason’s scent, he tracked him down by the riverbank.

When Bai Yi found him, Jason was soaked from head to toe, holding a small crocodile in his mouth. The crocodile was struggling with all its might.

Bai Yi stood on the shore, watching his every move. Jason seemed to realize Bai Yi was there, and in an instant, he loosened his grip, letting the crocodile escape from his jaws.

He turned toward the shore, meeting his brother’s gaze.

Without hesitation, he rushed toward Bai Yi, his wet fur rubbing all over Bai Yi’s face.

"Roar~" Brother, you like me! I’ll catch crocodiles for you to eat, okay?

The only reason Bai Yi tolerated Jason’s relentless advances was that Jason could at least provide food for the pride.

He never imagined that after turning into a lion, he would become the target of a younger male’s affections.

Everything Jason did pointed to one clear fact, his orientation was definitely questionable.

And Bai Yi had become his first "gay awakening."

Bai Yi couldn’t figure out what made him seem like the type to be into guys. He never even considered it when he was human—why would turning into a lion change that?

Of course not. He was a straight male lion!

He stepped away to put some distance between them, but Jason immediately stuck close again, rubbing against him affectionately.

In broad daylight, how could he act like this?

Absolutely unacceptable! Especially with the lioness he had found for Jason still nearby, what if she saw?

And sure enough, what he feared came true.

The lioness had come looking for Jason, hoping to seize one last chance to stay in this pride. But what she saw left her in shock.

As the sun set, the golden light reflected off the clear river.

By the riverbank, two male lions shamelessly engaged in something utterly scandalous.

The young male lion licked the older one’s face all over, acting as if he were the most devoted follower in the world.

The lioness stood less than fifty meters away, watching them for a long moment before turning around and leaving.

So, she had been the extra one all along.

When Bai Yi glanced back and saw the lioness walking away, he sighed internally.

His "good son" was beyond saving, might as well embrace lifelong loneliness.

Seeing that Jason was fine, Bai Yi felt relieved. However, the fact that Jason could catch a crocodile was unexpected.

He wasn’t even big enough to intimidate a crocodile, yet he insisted on provoking them.

Impressive. Just… impressive.

From that moment on, crocodiles became part of Jason’s hunting menu.

Those fearsome underwater predators never would have imagined they’d become mere tools for a young male lion to impress his brother.

Crocodile: "Thanks for the invite. I must have the worst luck in eight generations to run into these beasts!"

Bai Yi decided he wouldn’t bother dealing with Jason anymore. He just needed to focus on protecting himself.

But Jason being hopeless was one thing, why did Wang Cai and Isa have to follow in his footsteps too?!

The only normal one left was Gou Dan. Bai Yi had to admit, this little one was the only "good child" in his heart now.

The cubs were already over a year old. If they didn’t learn to hunt soon, they’d turn into useless freeloaders.

If they ever left the pride, they’d surely starve on the grasslands.

Teaching them to hunt was now an urgent task.

Bai Yi considered letting Jason teach them, but since lions were social animals, he needed to teach them not just how to hunt, but also how to work as a team.

As much as he wanted to be a lazy, carefree lion, Bai Yi had no choice but to go hunting with Jason while the three little ones watched and learned.

Meanwhile, after the death of their queen, the hyenas had crowned a new ruler. This land belonged to them, and they would never allow Bai Yi’s pride to do as they pleased.

They were determined to reclaim their dignity.

And so, on the day Bai Yi and Jason were demonstrating cooperative hunting techniques to the cubs, the hyenas appeared.

The three little ones quickly became the target of the hyenas' attacks. Luckily, Bai Yi reacted fast, roaring at Jason to abandon the hunt and rush to the cubs, taking them away immediately.

Jason followed behind without stopping.

The hyenas were still searching for them, forcing Bai Yi to give up their original home and find a new territory.

The hyena pack was too large. The fact that they had regrouped so quickly meant they had already chosen a new leader.

Being chased by the hyenas, Bai Yi and his family soon left the river and the forest, entering the vast grasslands.

Their tough days of wandering had begun once again.

Entering the grasslands meant things were about to get interesting. After all, there were lions everywhere.

But Jason wasn’t as weak as before. He could at least help make their little pride look stronger. However, the cub’s mane was still too light in color, making him seem like an easy target.

That cub had changed a lot after spending months as a wanderer. He was no longer easy to bully. The fact that he could drag a crocodile out of the water proved that much.

Speaking of crocodiles, Bai Yi never expected Jason would one day bring him crocodile meat.

That day, after Bai Yi and the cubs finished eating, they settled down for a nap.

They had arrived at a swamp, where a small island sat in the middle, covered in forest.

Where there’s a swamp, there’s usually a pride of lions. These lions were known as swamp lions.

Swamp lions were fierce and merciless. The fact that they could take on the crocodiles in the water showed how strong they were.

Bai Yi was well aware of this, which was why he made sure to settle a little farther away.

What he never expected was that when he woke up, Jason was nowhere to be found. Bai Yi assumed he had gone hunting but never imagined he’d go after a crocodile.

When Jason finally appeared, covered in mud and water, Bai Yi saw he was dragging a massive prey. Curious, he quickly got up to take a look.

It turned out to be a crocodile, still struggling in Jason’s jaws.

Jason’s bite strength clearly wasn’t enough to pierce through the crocodile’s thick hide, so he had just dragged it back alive.

Maybe the crocodile was too exhausted because its struggles were weak.

Jason loosened his jaws as he got closer, pinning the crocodile down with both paws and letting out a low growl to call Bai Yi and the cubs over.

When Bai Yi and the cubs gathered around, he was honestly a little confused.

"Roar." What are you doing?

"Roar." Brother, I brought you fresh prey! Hurry up and eat!

"Roar." How do you expect me to eat this?

Jason pawed at the crocodile again. The crocodile tried to escape, and Jason attempted to bite it several times, but he still couldn’t break through its hide. The young lion looked a bit lost.

The crocodile managed to slip from Jason’s grasp and scrambled toward the swamp.

Goudan, the curious one, wanted to get closer, but Bai Yi pressed a paw down on him.

Just because Jason wasn’t afraid of the crocodile didn’t mean the little one could mess with it.

Jason watched the crocodile escape and let out a low growl, as if saying, Brother, are you going to eat it or not?

Bai Yi definitely wasn’t eating it. Out of all the prey available, why did this cub have to pick something so hard to eat?

A crocodile’s thick, tough hide wasn’t just for show.

That crocodile had narrowly escaped death. It should be grateful that Bai Yi refused to eat crocodiles, or else the entire swamp population would have been wiped out.

The crocodile was probably speechless. Dragged all the way here just to be left to crawl back on its own?

Was Jason just that bored?

Jason was a strange kid, but everything he did revolved around Bai Yi, including his hunting preferences.

He was particularly attentive. Every time he brought back different prey, he would silently observe his brother’s eating habits.

If his brother ate less of a certain type of prey, he would never hunt it again.

If his brother ate more, he would definitely catch the same kind next time.

Bai Yi never noticed, but whenever he found something tasty, he would eat more of it. As a result, he ended up with the best-tasting food every time.

This made him a little happy.

Jason was highly skilled at hunting on his own, so Bai Yi decided to have him teach the three little ones.

That day, all five of them joined the hunt for gazelles.

Jason took the lead while Bai Yi guided the three cubs, waiting for the right moment to step in.

But Goudan displayed an exceptional hunting talent. Bai Yi and the cubs were only supposed to drive the prey toward Jason, and Bai Yi would only step in if Jason failed.

However, something unexpected happened.

One-year-old Goudan didn't stop after herding the prey in his brother’s direction—he charged straight at it.

Both Jason and Bai Yi were stunned. The little one bit the gazelle’s leg but was swiftly kicked in the face.

Clearly, he wasn’t strong enough yet. He failed.

His face swelled up from the kick.

This time, Jason took over. The difference in skill was obvious. Jason’s hunting was fast, precise, and ruthless—he had the aura of a king.

Bai Yi couldn’t help but sigh. What a waste. If only Jason were normal, he would definitely become a great lion king.

Unfortunately, he had… inappropriate thoughts about him.

Such a shame.

Goudan performed exceptionally well this time, so Bai Yi was delighted. After their meal, he showered Goudan with attention.

Wang Cai and Isa didn’t even get a chance to come near Bai Yi. He was truly disappointed in them.

Look at Goudan, then look at yourselves!

You’re both just a couple of fools!

Go away! Don’t bother me!

Feeling dejected, Wang Cai and Isa ran over to Jason. Jason licked them briefly, as if offering comfort.

It’s okay. You’ll understand when you grow up.

But… Jason was clearly doing well too.

Why did his brother only praise Goudan?

Jason didn’t understand, so he kept staring at Bai Yi.

Goudans face was still swollen from the gazelle’s kick. His brother was licking his wounds, and Goudan eagerly returned the affection. His little tongue occasionally brushed against his brother’s.

Ugh, so sour. Jealousy.

His brother never treated him like that.

Jason watched for a while, then stood up and walked toward Bai Yi.

In his eyes, Goudan was an eyesore. It made him unhappy, so he snapped at him.

“Roar!”

Get lost! Just because you’re small doesn’t mean you can touch what belongs to your brother!

(Bai Yi: ?)

Goudan didn’t understand Jason’s reaction and continued to enjoy Bai Yi’s warmth.

No one expected Jason to lose his patience entirely. He grabbed Goudan by the scruff and yanked him away from Bai Yi.

Goudan: “Awoo.”

Is my brother crazy?!

If you think Jason was already being ridiculous, you’d be wrong.

He could be even worse.

All his actions were driven by one thing—jealousy.

And the next day, Bai Yi was speechless again.

Lions didn’t need to eat breakfast every day. In the food-rich Serengeti, they simply hunted whenever they got hungry.

Usually, when Bai Yi woke up, Jason was already gone, tirelessly providing for the pride.

He never even gave Bai Yi a chance to prove himself.

But that day, the weather was beautiful, and even the wind was gentle.

Jason returned at noon, just as Bai Yi and the cubs were waking up.

No one expected it—Jason’s face was swollen like a pig’s head.

Just like Goudan

Bai Yi: "…"

Did this kid break his brain?
