Become a Cheetah
o0o
Being a hero isn't for every leopard; at least for Luo Qiao, unless his two cubs were in danger, he wouldn't easily provoke such a pack of wild dogs.
Don't be fooled by their small stature, slender limbs, and seemingly easier disposition than hyenas.
In fact, any savanna resident who understands wild dogs, especially those with less combat prowess, would never easily provoke them.
Wild dogs are among the fastest predatory animals, even able to keep up with cheetahs. While they might not reach a cheetah's top speed, wild dogs have much better endurance.
If Luo Qiao pushed his speed to the limit, he'd be exhausted in less than a minute. Wild dogs, however, can maintain high-speed running all day. With their numerical advantage, wild dogs can take turns leading the chase, tiring out their prey until it collapses!
Once an animal is targeted by them, sorry, if you want a more comfortable death, it's best to find a tree or a rock to bash your head against.
The pack of wild dogs that invaded Shamu's territory numbered nearly fifty. The largest wild dog families on the entire savanna can reach over a hundred! The group of wild dogs trapping Monty could only be considered a medium to small-sized family, with a male and female leader dog as their core.
Now, both leader dogs stood beneath the tree, glaring angrily at Monty in the tree and barking loudly. The other wild dogs also looked as if they wanted to tear Monty to shreds.
Luo Qiao tilted his head, somewhat puzzled. What did Monty do to make this pack of wild dogs so determined to kill him?
If he really just flicked his tail and walked away, would it seem too disloyal? Monty had helped him repeatedly and even provided him with prey. Now that Monty was in trouble, could he really just abandon him?
But Luo Qiao also knew that one should only do what one is capable of. For him, a single cheetah, to rush in and try to be a hero was pure daydreaming; he'd only get beaten up.
Such a dilemma...
Luo Qiao didn't agonize for too long. Two crowned cranes with beautiful feather crests helped him make a choice.
These large birds, who liked to appear in pairs, shared a habit with guinea fowl: no matter what predator they saw, they would shriek loudly, as if wanting to alert the whole world.
They suddenly cried out behind Luo Qiao, giving him quite a scare. Luo Qiao's immediate reaction was to jump off the termite mound.
The result was predictable.
The commotion here alarmed the wild dogs surrounding the tree, and Monty in the tree also saw Luo Qiao rushing down the termite mound. Monty's first reaction was to think he had been lying on the tree for too long, sun-dazed, and was hallucinating.
He clearly remembered Luo Qiao returning to his own territory after they separated, so how could he suddenly appear here?
In one day, to make both a lion and a leopard feel sun-dazed, Luo Qiao could truly laugh aloud with pride.
The wild dogs were raging. They had found the leopard that killed their cubs, but they were completely helpless against him! As long as Monty didn't come down from the tree, they could only wait beneath it until the end of time.
The accumulated fury burned more intensely, and the wild dogs' eyes began to turn red. But their body structure simply wasn't suited for climbing trees; they couldn't even climb! The enraged wild dogs could only stay under the tree, scratching and biting the trunk, watching the unperturbed leopard lazily yawn.
Occasionally, they would howl back at them for a bit, then continue to yawn.
This world, how could it be so unfair to a dog!
Just as the wild dogs had nowhere to vent their anger, Luo Qiao appeared!
A cheetah!
A cheetah with negative attack power!
A cheetah who was also a big cat, yet had negative attack power and was completely useless in a fight!
The wild dogs' eyes lit up; their fury had finally found an outlet. Leaving a few wild dogs to continue guarding the acacia tree, the remaining wild dogs charged straight towards Luo Qiao.
If they couldn't kill the leopard, biting a cheetah to death would also do!
The fur on the back of Luo Qiao's neck stood on end; this was blatant transference of anger!
Monty saw most of the wild dogs rushing towards Luo Qiao, and immediately shed his lazy demeanor, straightened his upper body, and let out a roar.
The wild dogs heard him, but they were already numb from roaring at the leopard multiple times. Luo Qiao also heard him, but he had no other thoughts besides tears streaming down his face.
Don't misunderstand, this was definitely not from being moved. If Monty truly felt that he had become the main target of the wild dogs' firepower and felt very apologetic, he shouldn't have just roared twice, but instead directly come down and beat the crap out of them!
You've heard of a wife being harassed by a hooligan, and the husband charging forward with fists raised: "Wife, get out of the way, I'm going to beat this guy until he can't take care of himself!"
But you've never heard of a husband being harassed by a hooligan, and the wife charging forward with a brick, yelling: "Husband, hurry and leave, I'll cover you!"
Before he could decide whether to run or charge, he was indiscriminately attacked by the wild dogs. Regardless, Luo Qiao believed he was wronged!
Having just escaped from the lion's jaws, only to be attacked by wild dogs, if the situation hadn't allowed it, Luo Qiao really wanted to give the heavens the middle finger. Why were they doing this to him?!
Now, Luo Qiao had no time to deal with the relationship between his middle finger and the heavens; he had to escape quickly.
However, Luo Qiao still kept a watchful eye, not running around like a headless chicken. He decided to run towards the border of the leopard's territory, which was adjacent to the Horstby lion pride and the Oros lion pride, belonging to a no-man's-land.
As a buffer zone between the two lion prides, the Garuna hyena clan was now living there.
The residents of the delta often exchanged information; they needed to know the movements of predators. Lions were the easiest to track, as their targets were too large. Finding leopards was very difficult; they always liked to hide.
While cheetahs had a large range of activity, their pickiness was well known. But ever since Luo Qiao's family of three appeared, the savanna residents began to re-evaluate the cheetah species.
As for hyenas, they had almost been forced out by the lion prides. To find hyenas, one only needed to go where the lions weren't.
Ever since the Garuna hyena clan moved to the area between the two lion prides, the ground squirrels living there immediately moved away with their families. The hyena clan occupied the ground squirrels' burrows, widened some, and used them as living quarters for the young hyenas.
Of course, the Garuna hyena clan currently had no cubs; they had all been killed by another leopard. The female leader desperately hoped to conceive another litter of cubs, but due to the location of the hyena clan, sandwiched between the Oros and Horstby lion prides, and with a cunning male leopard lurking, few male hyenas from other clans could reach here. The female leader, Garuna, could only continue to wait and search for opportunities.
Hyena clans and wild dog packs, with their different lifestyles and hunting times, should have been like well water not interfering with river water. Yet, the opposite was true. Wild dogs absolutely hated hyenas because hyenas would seize their prey whenever they had the chance.
When wild dogs encountered a larger number of hyenas, they were usually forced to abandon their prey. But if they met a lone hyena, sorry, the wild dogs would kill it without hesitation!
Currently, Luo Qiao couldn't rely on speed to shake off the wild dogs behind him. He could only run towards the no-man's-land where the Garuna hyena clan lived.
Originally, after the Garuna hyena clan settled here, this place should have become hyena territory. But neither of the two lion prides would allow the hyenas to occupy it. Thus, the no-man's-land remained a no-man's-land.
Even if the hyenas tirelessly marked the narrow area's boundaries every day, the lions would still act as if, "Even if you dig the boundaries into three-meter trenches, I still won't acknowledge it!"
The wild dogs chased Luo Qiao at full speed. Luo Qiao was panting heavily, almost getting his tail bitten by the leading wild dog. After a cold sweat, he finally saw a few hyenas!
They were fighting over a leg bone, something even lions wouldn't eat. Yet, hyenas could crush leg bones and suck out the marrow, which showed how astonishing their bite force was.
Wild dogs' bite force wasn't as strong as hyenas', but their teeth were sharp enough to seriously injure a hyena.
Luo Qiao repeated the scenario from when he was chased by Felix and stumbled into the Oros lion pride's territory. This time, however, he didn't dare to charge towards the clearly hungry hyenas. Instead, he veered towards a dead tree that had fallen to the ground.
This dead tree hadn't completely fallen; its trunk tilted at an angle, and the partially exposed roots had withered. Its canopy rested on another nearby tree. The thick trunk and enormous canopy were enough to keep Luo Qiao away from the ground.
He didn't need to exert himself climbing the tree; he just needed to run along the trunk to the highest branch of the canopy to escape the wild dogs behind him and the hyenas in front!
It sounded incredible, but neither wild dogs nor hyenas had climbing abilities. Even if Luo Qiao was only five or six meters from the ground, and a hyena could jump two meters, they still couldn't reach Luo Qiao.
So, Luo Qiao, who had run up the tree, was temporarily safe.
The wild dogs chasing Luo Qiao and the hyenas fighting over the bone met head-on and clashed. The wild dogs were furious and disliked everyone. The hyenas, on the other hand, believed the wild dogs had invaded their territory, which was clearly a provocation.
Luo Qiao stood on the branch, recovering his energy while watching the show. Indeed, fighting was a good distraction.
Eleven wild dogs against three hyenas clearly had the upper hand. But the wild dogs hadn't expected that a whole clan of hyenas lived here! The commotion of the fight attracted more hyenas, and the scales of advantage tilted towards the hyenas. The wild dogs immediately found themselves in trouble.
Luo Qiao knew he had to leave. If he stayed here, once the hyenas dealt with the wild dogs that had intruded their territory, he would face similar trouble to Monty, being surrounded by a pack of hyenas in a tree!
Seizing the opportunity, and confirming that neither the fighting wild dogs nor the hyenas noticed him, Luo Qiao quietly descended from the tree and slipped away under the cover of the tall grass.
He had to find his cubs now; lions, wild dogs, and everything else could go to hell!
Luo Qiao's sudden appearance rescued Monty. Most of the wild dogs went after Luo Qiao, leaving only four wild dogs guarding the tree. Monty didn't want anything to happen to Luo Qiao, after all, the other cheetah had drawn away the wild dogs for his sake.
While the wild dogs were distracted by the calls of their companions in the distance, Monty silently descended from the tree, pounced on the nearest wild dog, and killed it. The wild dog's kicking forelegs and whimpers ceased together.
The other three wild dogs, after a brief moment of shock, immediately attacked Monty. Monty climbed back up the tree, then directly leaped down midway, tackling another...
This killing spree didn't last long. Standing amidst the corpses of the four wild dogs, Monty licked the corner of his mouth and immediately chased in the direction Luo Qiao and the wild dogs had run.
That cheetah seemed foolish, but not stupid. He might have already figured out a way to escape, but Monty felt he still needed to confirm it himself.
In fact, the belief that Luo Qiao sacrificed himself, selflessly distracting the wild dogs to save him, was a complete misunderstanding.
But Monty insisted on believing it, and the truth of the matter became completely irrelevant.
So, indeed, a beautiful misunderstanding is truly beautiful...
At the same time, the battle between the wild dogs and the hyenas had reached a fever pitch. After today, this wild dog pack, which had trespassed into the leopard's territory and been ambushed by Luo Qiao, would cease to exist.
Actually, the wild dogs were also innocent; they were just looking for a place to raise their cubs, and accidentally, they were wiped out.
But living on the treacherous savanna, what is impossible to happen?
Felix, chased by Oros, finally managed to escape Oros after reuniting with Ero, but his hind leg and tail were injured. Perhaps influenced by Luo Qiao, the places where Oros bit were quite... that.
Of course, this might just be an accident.
The cheetah dad, who was single-mindedly searching for his cubs, finally arrived by the pond in the leopard territory more than an hour later. He immediately rushed to the marula fruit tree by the pond, lifted his head, hoping to find Luo Sen and Luo Rui on the branches, but unexpectedly, his gaze met the blue testicles of a black long-tailed monkey...
Luo Qiao was mortified. The black long-tailed monkey was clearly startled by the cheetah's fiery gaze and immediately screamed loudly. The two small cheetahs heard the black long-tailed monkey's cries, saw Luo Qiao, and immediately ran out from their hiding spot, calling "dad" as they rushed towards Luo Qiao.
Luo Qiao, under the black long-tailed monkey's look as if he were a pervert, felt a wave of internal exasperation.
