Chapter 82

Every Day the Villain Continues to Fail

[Quick Transmigration]

It turns out that humans should not overindulge in cloud-sucking cats to the point of excessive excitement in the central nervous system.

Otherwise, they will end up having some very strange dreams when they sleep at night.

Shang Chi's professional training told him that "what you think about during the day, you dream about at night" is a normal phenomenon.

However, he had never realized that deep in his subconscious, he had buried such filthy thoughts about a little kitten!

As someone completely isolated from small animals, Shang Chi had always liked them, but not only could he not touch them in real life, he had never even dreamed of them before.

Ever since he met this small and beautiful cat, Shang Chi discovered that even in his dreams, adorable kittens could appear.

Although... something about the way he was dreaming did not seem quite right.

In his dream, Shang Chi stared at the exquisitely beautiful cat-eared boy before him, falling into a long silence.

There was no denying it, no matter how many beautiful people he had seen before, the moment he laid eyes on this boy, he felt his heart pound violently, as if he could hear the blood boiling as it surged through his veins.

The boy's face looked as though it had been carefully sculpted by a master artist, with every feature perfected to the extreme.

His skin was flawlessly pale, his round ocean-blue eyes gazed up at the man with innocence, and his soft pink lips resembled a delicate strawberry marshmallow.

Not to mention the pair of soft, silvery-gray cat ears perched on top of his slightly wavy hair.

Those sharp little triangular ears twitched slightly in response to the boy tilting his head, as if teasing the man into reaching out and touching them.

Who could possibly resist fluffy, pink cat ears!

The boy's fair, satin-like skin gleamed with a warm jade-like luster within the dream.

Since the cat-eared boy was kneeling on the ground, his slender arms were positioned in such a way that they covered the most crucial parts.

Leaving only a plush, fluffy tail swaying temptingly in midair.

It looked so soft. He wanted to grab it.

The cat-eared boy tilted his head up, his milk-blue round eyes obediently locking onto the man’s gaze. His pink lips parted slightly, revealing two tiny, grain-sized canine teeth.

“Meow~”

Shang Chi, single since birth for 28 years, Dragon Mountain Sanatorium’s infamous expressionless iceberg, utterly untouchable by the opposite sex.

A man who devoted his life to nothing but his career and little kittens—was, for the very first time, struck straight through the heart by a single glance.

I think I might be in love.

The Shang Chi in his dream was clearly far more honest than in reality.

His ice-white cheeks burned with a sunset-like flush, the red spreading from behind his ears down to the rest of his body.

What should he do? His chest felt heavy, as if something was weighing it down.

Was this what they called a sweet burden?

Ruan Yao sat neatly with all four paws together on Shang Chi's chest, falling into serious contemplation.

The man was sleeping soundly. Even with a nearly t10 pound (4.5 Kg) kitten sitting on him, he showed no sign of waking up.

“System, are you sure this method will really help me return to human form?”

The system pounded its chest with absolute confidence. "Of course! As long as Host absorbs just a trace of the protagonist shou’s essence, you’ll be able to maintain human form for a whole day."

Ruan Yao’s face turned red.

"That sounds like something an evil monster from a novel would do. The protagonist shou won’t be harmed, right?" If the protagonist shou’s health might suffer, then he’d rather not become human in this world at all.

After all, protecting the protagonist shou was the first and foremost rule in the Cannon Fodder Handbook.

"No, no, it won’t hurt him! You only need a tiny bit of essence. Besides, men naturally..." The system hastily swallowed the second half of its sentence before it slipped out.

Though Ruan Yao had been kissed and hugged in every world, he was unfortunately quite oblivious when it came to certain things. Confused, he asked "Men naturally what?"

"It’s just... this and that, then that and this! Anyway, whether it’s a kiss or something else, as long as you can obtain the essence, it’ll be fine!" The system was flustered, suddenly feeling like it was corrupting its precious host.

A kiss?

Ruan Yao worked hard to infiltrate the man’s dream. The dream-version of Dr. Shang was easier to handle than his real-life counterpart.

If he forcefully kissed him, it shouldn’t be a big deal, right?

Shang Chi seemed cold on the outside, but deep down, he was just an old-fashioned, serious man.

Even when a stunning young man, who absolutely needed to be censored, appeared before him, Dr. Shang still averted his gaze with perfect self-restraint.

Though, his eyes couldn’t help but steal a few glances at the delicate beauty.

Shang Chi internally berated himself for his hypocritical behavior and took a tactical step back.

However, the cat-eared little beauty seemed irritated by being ignored. His snow-white feet landed lightly on the floor, and his slender legs, still slightly unsteady, somehow managed to step forward in a graceful feline gait.

Under the young man's gaze, Shang Chi felt his entire body turn to stone.

The boy approached slowly, their breaths now audible in the quiet space between them.

Ruan Yao was a head shorter than Shang Chi, and when he tilted his face upward, his round eyes beneath those curled lashes appeared innocent and endearing.

As if the vast, shimmering ocean had been captured within them.

A beauty so dazzling it was almost intoxicating.

Shang Chi was utterly entranced, failing to notice the warm arms that had slid around his neck, nor the soft, rose-colored lips gradually drawing closer.

Lost in a dream tinted with the hues of roses, Shang Chi was enveloped in a haze of decadent floral fragrance, drowning his very soul.

The next morning, Shang Chi was woken up by a cat.

More precisely, he was unceremoniously stomped awake by a cat paw.

Despite having stayed up half the night, Ruan Yao’s feline instincts had him up at the crack of dawn.

The moment he woke up, he started bouncing around Shang Chi’s room without restraint—leaping from the window ledge to the bed, then from the bed onto Shang Chi himself.

A silver-gray ball of fluff flitting through the air.

Shang Chi usually had a disciplined sleep schedule, but for some reason, today he was woken up by a cat’s trampling.

When he finally opened his eyes, there was a suspicious hint of red on his face. Even when he looked at Ruan Yao, there was a trace of guilt in his gaze.

Ruan Yao was confused. If anyone should feel guilty, shouldn’t it be me?

Shang Chi rubbed the little kitten’s head, his tone so gentle that even he didn’t notice: “Mimi, are you hungry? Do you want to eat?”

Mimi your head. Your whole family is Mimi.

And why was he using baby talk with an adult male cat?! Ruan Yao was on the verge of collapse.

Shang Chi found a cartoon-themed cat bowl and filled it to the brim with goat milk powder.

Absentmindedly lapping up the milk, Ruan Yao kept glancing up at Shang Chi’s expression.

The protagonist shou really seemed off. Why was he looking at the kitten with such a guilty expression?! It was like watching a decent young man who had been ravaged by bandits.

Ruan Yao’s fur stood on end.

Damn, this is so freaking weird. Did he find out I forcibly kissed him?

Shang Chi was still dazed over the fact that he had actually fantasized about an innocent little kitten in his dreams.

How could this happen?

He couldn’t stop himself from watching as the little kitten stuck out its soft pink tongue to eat, and in his mind, the image of that cat-eared youth from his dream surfaced again.

So beautiful it almost felt unreal, yet wearing such a pure and sincere expression as he kissed him.

In the end, his sinful fingers couldn’t help but type into his phone browser: “What should I do if I’ve fallen for a cat that turned into a boy?”

Of course, the search engine had no answers to such a question. The only results he found were a bunch of stunning cat photos.

Doctor Shang, eager for knowledge, felt frustrated for exactly one second before quickly heading to a forum to post a bounty question.

However, the responses made Shang Chi feel even more powerless.

“OP, are you unable to distinguish between comics and reality? If your cat turns into a human, I’ll livestream washing my hair while doing a handstand!”

“Obviously, you should just * him!”

“Hey? Let’s see the guy—uh, I mean, the cat?”

Shang Chi frowned as he skimmed through the replies, but even as it was almost time for work, he still hadn’t found a way to suppress these feelings.

He let out a long sigh, crouched down, picked up the little ragdoll cat, and gently grasped Ruan Yao’s two soft paws, lowering his head to look at him. “Anyway, you’re going home today. I’m going to miss you.”

The little kitten blinked at Shang Chi in confusion and obediently let out another “meow.”

Shang Chi didn’t know why he felt so reluctant to part with this little cat, which had only spent a single night with him.

A strange sense of loss settled in his heart. Regretfully, he ruffled the fluffy and fragrant long fur before finally mustering the courage to bury his face in that soft little belly and take a deep inhale.

Ruan Yao’s paws stiffened.

Humans are terrifying.

Coming back to his senses, Ruan Yao sobbed pitifully in his consciousness “Waaah, I’m not clean anymore.”

After savoring the last moment, Shang Chi stuffed Ruan Yao into the cat carrier he had specially bought, carrying an unprecedentedly heavy heart as he headed to the sanatorium.

Perhaps due to the weight of his sorrow, Doctor Shang’s imposing aura seemed even stronger.

The moment he arrived at the hospital, all the nurses, doctors, and even patients froze in fear, feeling as though they were sitting on pins and needles. Everyone in the hallway hurried into their rooms, and the once noisy corridor became silent as a grave.

Even those who refused to take their medicine before were now frantically swallowing their pills.

“Xiao Yang” Holding the cat carrier, Doctor Shang paid no mind to the chaos around him and instead expressionlessly called out to the receptionist “Has anyone contacted this place about losing a cat?”

The young nurse shook her head in confusion. “Who would bring a cat here? That’s not allowed.” The moment she finished speaking, her gaze fell on the cat carrier in Shang Chi’s hand.

The nurse leapt up. “T-this, this, this—!”

Shang Chi calmly explained “This cat wandered into my office yesterday afternoon. It must have gotten lost when someone came to visit. I brought it here just in case the owner called to look for it.”

“Oh, oh, oh.” The nurse breathed a sigh of relief, then crouched down to peer into the carrier at Ruan Yao.

“Oh my god! What an adorable little kitty! Mimi, what’s your name?”

Heh, foolish human.

The young nurse played with the kitten for a while before indignantly exclaiming “What kind of irresponsible owner let such a beautiful kitten run off and didn’t even bother to call?!”

“They must have abandoned it here on purpose!”

That comment unintentionally hit Shang Chi right in the heart.

If that family doesn’t want him anymore, then there shouldn’t be any problem if I take him in, right?

Once again, the image of the cat-eared youth surfaced in Shang Chi’s mind.

The thought of legally claiming him felt… quite nice.

The nurse was utterly stunned, thinking she must be hallucinating. Never in her life did she expect to see the untouchable flower of the hospital blushing.
