Chapter 84

Every Day the Villain Continues to Fail [Quick Transmigration]

o0o

On the way back to Shang Chi’s house, Ruan Yao stayed as quiet as a mouse in the pet carrier, afraid that Shang Chi might notice something was off. His two fluffy white paws obediently rested on his tail.

As soon as Shang Chi opened the carrier, he was so overwhelmed by how cute the little cat looked that he nearly fainted.

He picked up the kitten, his voice dripping with affection as he teased “You're such a good little kitty. Whose little kitty is this, huh?”

At home, Dr. Shang completely let go of his usual composed demeanor and even answered his own question in front of the kitten.

“It’s Shang Chi’s little kitty.”

This doesn’t match your cold and aloof image at all!

Being held and smothered like this, Ruan Yao truly understood what it meant to be deceived by appearances.

If he were a reader, he would definitely write a ten-thousand-word complaint review!

There really was something magical about cuddling a cat.

After thoroughly indulging in his little ball of fluff, the once-exhausted human instantly felt refreshed, as if all his fatigue had melted away.

He even had the urge to light a post-snuggle cigarette, and leaving only a thoroughly ruffled and flattened kitten sprawled on his lap like a used mop.

The small cat let out a pitiful sigh from deep in his throat.

But in the eyes of humans, what troubles could a kitten possibly have?

Just as Shang Chi was about to plant another kiss on Ruan Yao’s forehead, he suddenly remembered something important.

A cat this clean and clearly purebred must have been well cared for before, meaning he must have already had a name.

The thought that someone else had given this little kitten a name before he did sparked a strange feeling of jealousy in Shang Chi’s heart. He really wanted the kitten to belong to him completely.

“What’s your name, little one?”

His voice was low as he lifted Ruan Yao, their eyes meeting. Deep black eyes locked onto round sea-blue.

“How about Daddy gives you a new name?”

Ruan Yao was completely stunned by being called “Daddy’s” kitten. Forgetting that his fur had puffed up in shock, he angrily meowed several times.

You scoundrel! Who the hell is calling you Daddy?!

Even when angry, the little cat looked adorable. Its tiny pink mouth revealed two rice-sized fangs, and its grumbling meows were muffled in its throat, sounding less like curses and more like soft, clingy complaints.

It actually seemed… happy?

Shang Chi completely misinterpreted Ruan Yao’s reaction. His face, usually devoid of expression, showed a rare flicker of what looked like embarrassment.

As a science major, coming up with names wasn’t his strong suit. No matter how long he thought, he couldn’t come up with one he was satisfied with. Something like “Mimi” or “Snowball” was too common, too easy to mix up with other people’s cats.

He stared at the kitten apologetically. “I heard simple names help pets grow strong. How about… Gou Dan*?”

The gentle little kitten was stunned for a moment before immediately showing Shang Chi what it meant to have eyes filled with murderous intent, delivering two solid punches without hesitation.

With fresh paw prints stamped on his face, Shang Chi blissfully floated to the kitchen to prepare dinner for his little kitty.

Even getting beaten up by his cat felt amazing.

Standing outside the kitchen, Ruan Yao suspiciously watched the man, who was now wearing a blue dress shirt, suit pants, and a pink apron—cooking a meal just for him.

Rather than believing Shang Chi’s personality had collapsed, he was more inclined to think that some clueless ghost had taken over his body.

But the soul he saw in his dream was indeed Shang Chi himself.

Ruan Yao couldn't figure it out, so he decided not to think about it anymore.

As long as he knew he was in a high position now, that was enough.

The proud little cat held his head high, tail swaying, looking all noble and aloof as he waited for the human to serve him food.

Shang Chi gazed at his feline master with deep affection.

However, his naturally expressionless face made his loving gaze look more like that of a deranged serial killer admiring his next victim.

It was hard for Ruan Yao not to suspect that something had been added to his food.

He hesitated after taking a bite, staring at the man whose cold face contrasted with the pink, romantic atmosphere around him. Shang Chi didn’t even realize his whiskers were covered in soup.

With a handkerchief, Shang Chi carefully wiped away the food clinging to Ruan Yao’s whiskers. His eyes then suddenly focused on the thick, fluffy fur around Ruan Yao’s neck.

Amidst the silver-gray fur, there was a small, inconspicuous piece of red lacquer.

All the furniture in Shang Chi’s office was provided by the institution and coated in a deep red lacquer. The set was old, and its paint frequently chipped off.

That small piece of lacquer on Ruan Yao’s fur had clearly come from the leg of his desk.

He distinctly remembered leaving the little cat safely tucked in his pet carrier before he left. Could it have gotten out on its own?

Adding to the mystery was that tuft of strange, milky-white fur on his lab coat…

Calmly, Shang Chi plucked the tiny chip of lacquer from Ruan Yao’s fur and tossed it aside.

He was quite curious about what this clever little cat, capable of escaping from its carrier, had been up to.

Whether as a human or a cat, Ruan Yao had a tiny appetite. No matter how delicious the food was, a few bites were enough to fill him up.

Just as he held the last mouthful of food in his mouth, an evil hand reached for his fluffy tail.

As everyone knows, a cat’s tail and the cat itself are two entirely separate beings.

Ruan Yao had no idea his tail had fallen into the hands of a scheming human. In fact, he even happily swayed it.

Shang Chi might appear cold and refined, but deep down, he could be wickedly playful.

His slightly calloused fingers ran from the tip of the tail to its base, savoring the soft, fluffy texture. He felt so content that he could almost take flight.

Especially because this ragdoll cat was a little boy.

His gaze inevitably drifted to the round, soft-looking… cat eggs, hidden beneath that snowy fur.

Sometimes, the rivalry between cats and dogs makes perfect sense.

Shang Chi realized he had developed a severe case of cuteness aggression.

Otherwise, why would he have the urge to bully this adorable, obedient ragdoll kitten until it cried?

With Ruan Yao’s personality, just one pinch and he would surely let out a pitiful whimper, clinging to his owner’s arm with his soft pink paws, big blue eyes brimming with tears, demanding comfort.

Shang Chi couldn’t suppress the increasingly wicked urge in his heart. In the end, he gave in and gave those two soft little cat eggs a squeeze.

The lazy little cat, who had been digesting his meal, froze on the spot.

The air seemed to still.

He stared in disbelief at the human who had just done something so outrageous.

In the next moment, the silence shattered as sharp claws lashed through the air.

With a startled yowl, Ruan Yao bolted for the top of the cabinet in sheer panic.

Unbelievable! Shang Chi turned out to be such a beast in human skin!

Ruan Yao’s body in this world was that of an unneutered, one-year-old kitten!

Beneath his thick fur, his skin felt like it was burning. The spot that had been pinched throbbed with an unbearable heat.

He was already ridiculously sensitive, and if Shang Chi kept teasing him like this, he was genuinely afraid he might… let something slip.

If that happened, Ruan Yao swore he would book a one-way ticket off the planet that very night.

Ruan Yao was utterly aggrieved, crouching on top of the cabinet and glaring at the protagonist with reproachful eyes. How could a human bully a little cat like this?

That night, Shang Chi went to sleep with a face full of tiny plum blossom-shaped paw prints and the resentful gaze of a small feline.

Yet that familiar, sweet burden appeared once again.

Ruan Yao, pressing his head against Shang Chi’s firm chest muscles, closed his eyes and successfully slipped into his dreams once more.

This time, the cat-eared boy’s delicate face was filled with anger. His blue eyes shimmered with unshed tears, and his cheeks were flushed red from frustration.

Even when furious, he was so breathtakingly beautiful that it could make one's heart race.

Then, the furious little beauty launched a flurry of cat punches at Shang Chi. But in the dream, Shang Chi was overwhelmingly strong.

All he had to do was extend his arm and press a hand against Ruan Yao’s forehead, and the small, feisty figure was instantly immobilized.

Shang Chi initially thought that the beautiful ragdoll boy in his dream was angry because he had squeezed his noble cat lord’s precious jewels. However, the boy’s face went blank for a moment, as if he had almost forgotten about it himself.

But that didn’t matter now. The most important thing was to tell this wretched man two things:

First, his name was not Gou Dan!

Second, I am your father.

Feeling deflated, whimper.

Gou Dan (狗蛋) is a common but somewhat silly pet name in China, literally meaning "Dog Egg.
